Mike's Second-day-update of Wow

E-mail Print PDF

Today, (or rather this hours') article started with a not-so-original fairly odd title. But no, I didn't make a mistake. I will be having an every second day (or so) update on the the general gaming world and the things it's going through; and other matters relating to this topic. An example of this could be - lets say the pirate bay trial which Lander was mentioning earlier, or E3 gaming and rumors on various decisions by gaming companies.

For those who have not already heard, Ubisoft has released their new Assassins Creed 2 Xbox LIVE Theme for as you've guessed it, the Xbox 360. You get to "dress your Xbox interface in the Renaissance fashion." This includes day and night cycle and is could be coming to your xbox at the price of a measly 240 MS (Microsoft) Points!

Status: Available Now.

The 'friends' section on the Dashboard while using the A.C. 2 Premium theme from Ubisoft.

Asides from their [fairly] new theme, they have also released a PS3 Exclusive Wallpaper which you can preview below. It will be available Completely Free for download on the Playstation Network for use on your PS3. *Note* internet connection required! If you desire so, you may also wish to use it as a desktop wallpaper. You can do so by right clicking and selecting "Save image as..." then opening it up and selecting "Set as Desktop Wallpaper", (after right clicking again). This image is accessible below, and I have to say so myself: is a pretty damn nice, and somewhat comedic addition to any PC or Mac.

PS3 Exclusive Assassins Creed II Wallpaper

The first image (Xbox theme) was downsized by 400 pixels each direction. The above image (PS3 Exclusive Wallpaper) has been downsized from 1920 by 1280 to 920 by 480. If you are reading this through through the forums, you can simply click on the downsized image to get the 1920 x 1080 version. :)

More will be added later, but as of now, I have to go out for a bit. This ends The first installment of Mike's Second-day-update-of-Wow. <corny ending>Have a Decadent Day!</corny ending>

TPB Might Change Owner

E-mail Print PDF

Well, since the operators of the popular bittorrent site The Pirate Bay will be facing prison time since the judge who dealt with their original case was deemed "not biased", it seems as though The Pirate Bay may be bought out by another company

Yes, it's true.

News reached the press today in Sweden - The Pirate Bay might get aquired by Global Gaming Factory X AB.

A lot of people are worried. We're not and you shouldn't be either!

TPB is being sold for a great bit underneath it's value if the money would be the interesting part. It's not. The interesting thing is that the right people with the right attitude and possibilities keep running the site.
As all of you know, there's not been much news on the site for the past two-three years. It's the same site essentially. On the internets, stuff dies if it doesn't evolve. We don't want that to happen.

We've been working on this project for many years. It's time to invite more people into the project, in a way that is secure and safe for everybody. We need that, or the site will die. And letting TPB die is the last thing that is allowed to happen!

If the new owners will screw around with the site, nobody will keep using it. That's the biggest insurance one can have that the site will be run in the way that we all want to. And - you can now not only share files but shares with people. Everybody can indeed be the owner of The Pirate Bay now. That's awesome and will take the heat of us.

The old crew is still around in different ways. We will also not stop being active in the politics of the internets - quite the opposite. Now we're fueling up for going into the next gear. TPB will have economical muscles to let people evolve it. It will team up with great technicians to evolve the protocols. And we, the people interested in more than just technology, will have the time to focus on that. It's win-win-win.

The profits from the sale will go into a foundation that is going to help with projects about freedom of speech, freedom of information and the openess of the nets. I hope everybody will help out in that and realize that this is the best option for all. Don't worry - be happy!

Something interesting will be "user deletion"

We are going to build a user deletion interface later today. Many people have asked about having their account removed and we will not force anyone to stay on of course.

However, we also want to point out that we have no logs of anything, no personal data will be transferred in the eventual sale (since no personal data is kept). So no need to be worried for safety. We always care for that.

It also feels a bit sad to see the comments on the previous blog entry. We understand that you're upset. But we have reasons to do this that we cannot ignore. We need to keep the site going and this is the only working alternative. We cannot finance the growth of the site anymore and we cannot back down. The only way is up and this is the only route to that place.

The support we had, is support we still need. We've been fighting for years for you; and yes; you have supported us in that endevour. We still need you, even if you abandon the site. The important thing is that you keep sharing and keep on saving the internets. We will try to do that, but right now, we need and deserve a break. Some things needs to be reborn and rebooted. Let's make this into something good!

Both of those quotes are from The Pirate Bay's blog, which you can follow here:

http://www.thepiratebay.org/blog

We'll be sure to keep everyone posted on what happens with TPB's operating.

O Rly, Major Nelson?

E-mail Print PDF

Everyone knows that you can compare people's games and achievements on websites like mygamercard.net, xbox.com, etc, but when was    the last time you have looked at the top-known person on Xbox, Major Nelson?.  Looking at his gamercard, you can see his recently played   games, but what's this?  A new game of some sort?  Seems as of this last friday, Major Nelson has been playing something new called "Xbox   360 Beta", which could be a lot of things.  Maybe something for Project Natal?

Who knows what this "Xbox 360 Beta" is, but one thing's for sure - with something that has as nice of a display picture as that, it's got to be good.

Update:

"It has now been revealed that the Xbox 360 beta is actually people testing the upcoming Xbox 360 Avatar Awards system. This is where by unlocking certain achievements you will also unlock new clothing for your avatar.

The Avatar award system is heading to the 360 sometime later in the year."

-There ya go folks.

Wonder what types of goodies will be heading "Avatar award system", yet alone what it consists of.  I guess we can only wait!

Making the Switch to IPB 3.0

E-mail Print PDF

Alright everyone, you may have read in our latest announcement that we will soon be making the switch to IPB 3.0.

Mike and I (more of Mike) attempted to do so when you may have gotten that email that we sent out in bulk, saying that we were attempting to upgrade, blah blah blah, but in short:

We failed. Miserably. In short, we actually did more harm than good since we created an entirely new forum, instead of upgrading our current one. But here what's going to happen in the following weeks;

•Upgrade to IPB 3.0

•More work on the home page

•New skin for the forums to match the home page

•More YouTube videos (yay!)

So if the forums are closed overnight or something and you're like, "OMG WERE WE H4XED?!"

The answer is no. We're probably making the upgrade to IPB 3.0

And yeah, in case some of you were wondering, the new home page IS (or was) the Super Seekrit I posted about a few weeks ago, but I was too lazy to work on it at all since I couldn't figure out a few things with our new system.

Anyways, that should give you guys some things to think about.

-Lander
